The Alstroemeria pullover incorporates classic Aran sweater elements, such as soft curving cables, interlacing lines, diamond cable motifs, bobbles, and a moss stitch texture. There’s an added touch of intricacy with cables placed along the sleeves, saddle shoulders, and collar. These elements provide visual interest and functional benefits, preventing bulk when layering your sweater during the autumn and winter months. Using a lovely 3-ply woolen spun yarn, I created the perfect blend of strength and softness for the Alstroemeria pullover.
The sweater is knit flat, in pieces, from the bottom up, with positive ease at the chest and sleeves to allow for comfortable layering. As a design element, the length of the back of the sweater is 1.25” // 3 cm longer than the front. However, that can easily be shortened if that’s your preference. The collar is picked up after the body and sleeves are joined. The cable motif is continued through the neckband while also working a 1 x 1 Rib for the front and back of the sweater.
Alstroemeria is suitable for intermediate to advanced knitters, as it requires the ability to knit cables and maintain a consistent moss stitch pattern. Chart and written instructions are provided.
Alstroemeria is a classic and functional sweater that will make a great addition to any knitter's wardrobe.
